Bean & Leaf
A fictional coffee brand website focused on warm tones, soft typography, and a cozy, grounded visual identity.
Case Study
Overview
Bean & Leaf is a concept website for a fictional coffee brand, created as a practice project while learning web design fundamentals.
The goal was to explore how color, typography, and imagery can be used to communicate warmth and comfort in a simple landing page structure.
The Problem
The challenge was to create a digital experience that felt inviting and grounded, without relying on complex layout or interaction.
The design needed to communicate a sense of comfort and familiarity at first glance.
The Approach
The visual direction was built around warmth and softness.
A muted, earthy color palette was chosen to reflect a cozy café environment, paired with a creamy off-white background to avoid harsh contrast and maintain a gentle visual tone.
Typography played a key role in shaping personality:
- A serif typeface was used for headings to introduce a subtle vintage character
- A clean sans-serif was used for body text to maintain readability and balance
Together, the type system created a quiet contrast between character and clarity.
Imagery and Composition
Imagery was sourced from Unsplash, selected specifically for warm tones and natural elements such as wood textures, coffee tones, and greenery.
A dark brown gradient overlay was applied to the hero image to improve text readability while blending the visual elements into a cohesive palette.
Result
The final design communicates a soft, grounded brand identity through restrained color, simple structure, and consistent visual choices.
It demonstrates how small, deliberate design decisions can create a strong sense of atmosphere even in a minimal layout.
